Lot of experiments in Emo Party Season 2

Lot of experiments in Emo Party Season 2

There have been major developments, and there are a couple of important updates I need to share:

  1. Emo Party: Season 2
  2. Mental Health T-Shirt Fundraiser

This post will focus on the Emo Party; the fundraiser will follow shortly.

The making of the event started off as there were demands and asks from friends around to host another party. Because party planning and executing is no joke. I was beginning my work in June and it was our goal to have a party one more time. We tried reaching out to few of the venues and decided to choose the one where we had established connections with because time was of the essence + a good existing rapport.

Once again, many people from the community came together to contribute. DJs from our previous party returned, new friends suggested and realized new ideas. New activities and experiments featured at this party included Emo bingo, an Alternative style contest with giveaways, a life-sized Skelly mask & emblem, a custom party flag, and the integration of Midwest & Modern emo into our lineup, alongside self designed "EMO IS FOR LOVERS" wristbands.

Special thanks to Hagyeong, Genny, and Vivianne who stepped up BIG time.

Personally, I'm particularly proud of introducing the Midwest/Modern emo subset and integrating it into our party. This has not been done before due to its niche demand, but as a fan myself, I know there is a dedicated fanbase. Creating a space for them under the emo umbrella was incredibly fulfilling, especially considering the genre's tendency towards division. Playing American Football, Get Up Kids, Mineral, Hotelier, and Hot Mully at our party? I'll take it all day, any day baby!

We also partnered with brick-and-mortar stores that support the alternative scene in Korea: @flef.kr & @rockshop_player. It was amazing to see our party posters displayed in their stores.

Our posters, once again of great quality, were created by our friend Alif from Malaysia. The bands delivered exceptional performances. We were thrilled to have the up-and-coming star wapddi perform with us at the party, alongside The Apop (need I have to say more).

The party was a great success, and profits were shared among all stakeholders. It was a collaborative effort where organizers, helpers, bands, DJs, venue owners, bartenders, and the crowd all played crucial roles, resulting in a seamless event. Whatever remains from "EMO IS FOR LOVERS" is reserved for future projects or causes we wish to support. It's an unusual feeling to have funds left over, as we're used to investing our own money into the brand. We are truly grateful for this.

Here are some photos and highlights from the event:

We hope to expand our parties so more people can enjoy them, especially in areas where such scenes are lacking, and globally if given the opportunity. Each event holds significant meaning for us, hence the blog post. These efforts represent new depths and experiences for our local scene. Hopefully, these regular parties will continue to evolve and thrive because of our passion for them.

If you're an emo/alt band interested in performing in Korea, please reach out to us at x_emoisforlovers_x@gmail.com. We aim to share our scene and provide global engagement opportunities. Together, we can create something special.

We also have exciting news coming up. Do hold us accountable if we are not doing anything well enough or fast enough. Thank you all. ILYSM xoxo
